Join Pittsburgh DSA in canvassing at Market Square to advocate for the return of the Work Accidents and the Law Crystal Eastman Historical Marker!
The Work Accidents and the Law historical marker has been removed from its place in Market Square. The plaque commemorated Comrade Crystal Eastman’s groundbreaking book that laid bare the harsh realities of factory life in Pittsburgh and helped set the stage for the nations first workers compensation law. The site has hosted the Allegheny-Fayette Central Labor Council's Workers' Memorial Day ceremony for many years. The removal represents an intentional sanitizing of proletarian history. Learn more about the historical marker in Pittsburgh DSA's Steel City Socialist publication.
We will have two times for canvassing on Wednesday, October 28 (lunch time and end of the work day), where we will also be handing out halloween candy.
We will also be canvassing before the Steelers game on Sunday, November 1, and we will be going back to Genoa's Pizza and Bar afterwards for anyone who wants to hang out and watch the game.
