Healthcare Workers Happy Hour

East End Brewing Company - 147 Julius St, Pittsburgh, PA 15206, USA
Pittsburgh DSA Labor Committee is hosting a happy hour for healthcare workers to build bonds across workplaces, talk about the stresses of the day and celebrate the wins we see when we organize together. We will be meeting at East End Brewing from 6:30p-8:30p.  Whether you are an Environmental Services technician at a local hospital, a mental health therapist working from home, a nurse, a receptionist at a planned parenthood clinic, a professor of pharmacology, or any other kind of healthcare worker we would love to hang out. We welcome anyone who interacts with patients or maintain the system that is meant to keep us well (but struggles to do so within the capitalist framework).  If you are interested in joining, but work a different shift or do not enjoy spaces with alcohol, please email info@pghdsa.org with the subject line: Healthcare Worker. With enough interest, we would love to host a healthcare worker social time in the morning or a sober hang out elsewhere in the future.

Crystal Eastman Historical Marker Canvassing

3x,
2 Locations
Join Pittsburgh DSA in canvassing at Market Square to advocate for the return of the Work Accidents and the Law Crystal Eastman Historical Marker!  The Work Accidents and the Law historical marker has been removed from its place in Market Square. The plaque commemorated Comrade Crystal Eastman’s groundbreaking book that laid bare the harsh realities of factory life in Pittsburgh and helped set the stage for the nations first workers compensation law. The site has hosted the Allegheny-Fayette Central Labor Council's Workers' Memorial Day ceremony for many years. The removal represents an intentional sanitizing of proletarian history. Learn more about the historical marker in Pittsburgh DSA's Steel City Socialist publication. We will have two times for canvassing on Wednesday, October 28 (lunch time and end of the work day), where we will also be handing out halloween candy.  We will also be canvassing before the Steelers game on Sunday, November 1, and we will be going back to Genoa's Pizza and Bar afterwards for anyone who wants to hang out and watch the game.
